Circular letter from Millard Fillmore, New York State Representative in the 26th United States Congress, promoting the election of William Henry Harrison for the office of U.S. President and commenting on the administration of current President Martin Van Buren. The letter is sent from Washington, D.C. and includes marginal notes by Elijah Knight of Erie County, N.Y., who forwarded the letter to F.D. Bordman of Medina, Orleans County, N.Y. It is dated February 19, 1840. Fillmore himself would later serve as U.S. President from 1850 to 1853.

Millard Fillmore was born in Cayuga County, N.Y. and later became a resident of East Aurora and Buffalo. He was a lawyer, local office holder, State Assemblyman, U.S. Congressman, N.Y. State Comptroller, Vice-President under Zachary Taylor and 13th U.S. President, 1850-1853. He was also involved in establishing numerous Buffalo institutions.
